Premier League Matchday 3 Predictions (Scores & Man of the Match)

I think I'm going to turn this into a weekly thing, so comment below if you're up for that. This week's clashes are arguably even bigger than last, with title contenders Liverpool and Chelsea going head to head and Mikel Arteta facing his former mentor in Pep Guardiola as Arsenal travels to City. Brighton will hope to keep up there so-far perfect record as they face 7th-placed Everton and West Ham will try to remain in first as they face off against London rivals Palace. So buckle in as we go through my predictions for the upcoming Premier League matchday.

Man City 3-1 Arsenal

City will obviously be expected to win this one up against a struggling Arsenal outfit, but it won't be all bad for Arsenal. I predict that they will capitalize on a defensive error and take the lead early on, and while City scramble in an equalizer before the end of the half, Arsenal fans will have reason to be optimistic. They will be a tad unlucky to let in two more goals, but it isn't like that wasn't expected. With a fairly kind fixture list in the next few weeks, I think they should continue to trust Arteta and let him make some additional signings in January. You have to feel sorry for the man, because Arsenal fans are expecting a return to Europe despite a squad on par with the likes of Everton and Aston Villa, and I strongly believe that they should give him at least until around February before they seriously consider giving him the sack. Man of the Match: Riyad Mahrez.

Newcastle 1-2 Southampton
This is a hard one to predict, because both teams (especially Southampton) are prone to being really inconsistent. I mean, any team that can lose 9-0 to a team and then get a solid draw within the space of 6 months is really not the best for people like me who want to predict their scores. I'm going to go with a 2-1 away win for Southampton, with a firecracker of an opening goal from James Ward-Prowse, before they seal the win late on through a substitute like Obafemi or someone. Man of the Match: James Ward-Prowse.

Brighton 2-2 Everton
You can never underestimate momentum, and with the home advantage I think Brighton should logically sneak a draw. Demarai Gray has looked sharp for Everton and Allan will completely boss the midfield, but Everton will not be at their best defensively as a hungry Brighton outfit look good every time they make push into the final third. They will struggle as usual to find that clinical edge, meaning strong finishing from the Everton forwards will lead to an exciting draw. Man of the Match: Allan.

West Ham 6-0 Crystal Palace
I mean, the signs are all their. Crystal Palace look uninspired under Viera and the Hammers are on fire at the moment. Goals will come from everyone from Michail Antonio up front to Tomas Soucek in defensive midfield. Form, motivation, solidity and the home advantage are all playing in the Iron's favor as they head into this matchup. I'm predicting the biggest win of the season so far as West Ham keep top spot as they go ahead on goal difference. Man of the Match: Michail Antonio.

Norwich 0-2 Leicester
This is a real tough one, because Leicester have not had the best time of it lately, but surely this shouldn't be too hard despite their defensive issues. Norwich are a team that have -8 goal difference after 2 games, and despite these to fixtures being against City and Liverpool it is still pretty abysmal. If they focus on keeping possession and everyone works hard defensively they should be able to comfortably overcome the Canaries. Also let me just question why oh why I never heard about Vestergaard going to Leicester until I decided to turn on this weeks preview? Man of the Match: Wilfried Ndidi.

Aston Villa 2-0 Brentford
Brentford are yet to concede, but they won't manage to keep that up. Aston Villa have the talent to get up the pitch really well and get good passes into the box, and with a strike partnership of Danny Ings and Ollie Watkins their attacking output is sure to prove frightening this season. The goals (and one assist) will come from that partnership as they take the three points against Brentford. Man of the Match: Ollie Watkins.

Liverpool 2-1 Chelsea
This is a tough one, and it could really go either way. My prediction is a 2-1 Liverpool win with a 89th minute Jota winner. Chelsea go ahead in the first half, but Salah equalizes in the second, so with that Jota winner they take the win. While Chelsea have a stronger midfield, Liverpool have a better keeper as well as a better back line and front line. Partnered with the fact that Liverpool will be at home, this means that despite the arrival of Romelu Lukaku Chelsea do not win again. Man of the Match: Alisson.

Burnley 1-2 Leeds
This is the toughest game this matchweek, which is nothing unusual for a Leeds game. Leeds love to attack and score, while Burnley pride themselves on consistent, unwavering defensive solidity. This means that both teams strongest areas will face each other, with Burnley's Tarkowski, Mee and Pope facing up against the likes of Bamford, Rafinha and Harrison. This also means that Burnley's worse area, attack, will face up against a shaky Leeds defense. While this could result in a field day for Chris Wood, I think Burnley will struggle to get up the pitch against Leeds' high press and while they will get a goal Leeds will take the win. Man of the Match: Jack Harrison.

Tottenham 3-0 Watford
O-oh sweet bragging rights, do-do-doo, good rights never seemed so go-o-od! In the midst of EVERYONE somewhat related to football saying "HaRrY kAnE iS lEaViNg SpUrRrRrRrS" I kept my level-headedness and said wait, hold on a minute, it really doesn't make sense in this post about who will be every clubs' biggest departure (I got 13 of 20 right and the window isn't even over). These kind of transfer rumors flare up all the time, and because of this I tend to look at these rumors with a lot of skepticism. And even the ones that do happen, like Messi to PSG or Sancho to United often take one or two more windows until hey are finalized. Anyway, routine 3-0 Spurs home victory. Man of the Match: Harry Kane.

Wolves 1-3 Man United
CR7 is BACK at United! This makes the title race EVEN more interesting, as well as making the Prem the best league in the world pretty much inarguably! He probably won't start against his Portuguese teammates, but I don't think an off-the-bench cameo would be too unbelievable. In terms of the match I think United will win 3-1, with Traore causing havoc but not too much else going for Wolves as they lose 3-1 at home. Man of the Match: Raphael Varane.
