A Revised History of Ekrizdis, the Evilest Wizard Ever

JK Rowling has written a few brief pieces about the evil Ekrizdis, but has barely scraped the surface of this loathsome character, and has left a lot shrouded by the mists of mystery. An intriguing character, Ekrizdis is the physical form of madness and evil, and today I will attempt to erase a few of the question marks surrounding this creepy character. Firstly, let's go over the little information we have been given.

He was a Dark inventor who was born somewhere during the fifteenth century. He was traveling the North Sea for an unknown reason when he came across a tiny island, which was basically just a big rock jutting out of the sea. There was no life there, and he decided to become the island's first inhabitant.

After casting sufficient protection charms, he created a huge fortress, which eventually became Azkaban, and resumed his experiments on Muggle sailors who unintentionally passed through his territory. He created many Dark things, most notably Dementors, before he died for an unknown reason.

However, there are many gaps in the story, and I will do my best to fill them. The first immediate and obvious problem is a practical one; what did he eat and drink? Unfortunately for you, the most simple reason would involve something which has, for centuries now, been put under a bad light; cannibalism. To put it simply, once sailors he had captured had been experimented on past their limit (when they died) he would consume their flesh, likely raw, and drink their blood. Yip, he was most certainly a phsyco.

Now the second big hole is; how were the vilest of all creatures, magical or not; Dementors, created. It clearly involved something purely evil. My theory may sound complicated, but that is just because of how much thought had to go into creating what I see as the only possible way they were created.

Basically, he did not simply discard the partly-eaten remnants of his victims into the sea. He was careful to keep them intact when he ate parts of them. You see, the cannibalism was not simply for nutrition. It had a second purpose: creating a Horcrux. According to Rowling, Voldemort created the largest number of Horcruxes; seven. However, maybe this is not strictly true.

Cannibalism is basically the only confirmed step you take when creating a Horcrux. He created more and more horcruxes; the dead bodies of his Muggle victims. Slowly his soul was split into more and more pieces, making him madder and madder.

In the Harry Potter series we witness the extreme changes Voldemort underwent after only seven Horcruxes. Imagine the effects when multiplied over and over. Now, I know you're gonna ask; how could he have died if he had so many Horcruxes that are clearly not destroyed? And how did dead Muggles gain the powers of Dementors? And it's here it gets even weirder.

So there must be a limit to how many Horcruxes you can make, right? And what would happen if you attempted to go over the limit? That is exactly what he did. It is entirely possible he did it on purpose or otherwise, as it is hard to understand the motives of a madman.

When I was doing my research, I managed to piece quite a bit together, and came to a conclusion. Basically, your soul gets so split up that your original body doesn't have enough left to function like a normal human. Your consciousness basically gets split up between your Horcruxes. They become semi-conscious vessels for your worst emotions. They also gain many of your abilities, and I suppose this means that Ekrizdis, like Voldemort, had the ability to fly.

However, they also gain additional powers, sort of amplifications of what the Horcrux could previously do. Remember the affects of the Horcrux's presence in the Deathly Hallows book. It sound like a less powerful version of the powers of Dementors! The appearance also makes sense. They are clearly missing some flesh, and look very cursed.

So that's my theory! I hope you enjoyed it, and please comment on your thoughts, check out my other posts and subscribe to get notified of my blog activity. I'll try to post often. See you next time.
