Premier League Matchday 2 Predictions (Scores & Man of the Match)

Matchday 1 was a pretty exciting opening weekend, with City, Arsenal and Aston Villa all unexpectedly beaten and United, Liverpool and Chelsea showing why they are title contenders with decisive wins over Leeds, Norwich and Palace, not to mention the invigorating clash between Newcastle and West Ham. Matchday 2 is also looking exciting, with Liverpool, City and United expected to annihilate Burnley, Norwich and Southampton while fixtures such as Palace vs Brentford, Leeds vs Everton and West Ham vs Leicester are all expected to be well-fought, heated affairs. That's not to mention an exciting London derby between Arsenal and Chelsea, Nuno Espirito-Santo's return to Wolves and an match to remain top-half between 8th place Brighton and 7th place Watford.

Liverpool 2-0 Burnley

Liverpool were comfortable winners in their match against Norwich, while Burnley failed to defend an early lead and went down 2-1 to Brighton. I don't predict any major upsets here, and while Burnley will definitely prove harder to beat than Norwich, Liverpool will ultimately come out with the victory, which I predict to be 2-0, 3-1 or 3-0. They are a team in form, and while their midfield is plagued with injuries, their attack is frightening and their defense looks solid. They will hope for another clean sheet, preferably without Alison needing to make a brilliant double-save. Man of the Match: Mohamed Salah.

Aston Villa 2-2 Newcastle
In my table predictions I did say that Villa would start off shakily without Grealish. I also said that Newcastle will stay well above the relegation zone. So while Villa clearly have a far superior squad, I am predicting a draw. The game shouldn't lack goals, with both teams narrowly losing six- and five-goal games. I will say they will both score two again, hopefully with Saint-Maximin doing well for Newcastle (I have him in my fantasy team). Man of the Match: Allan Saint-Maximin.

Crystal Palace 1-1 Brentford
Crystal Palace will have more possession and will pose a bigger attacking threat, but Brentford are superior defensively and they seem more hungry to win. They don't take the Premier League for granted. Palace will score early and continue to threaten, but Brentford will strike back off a set piece in the second half. This will turn the momentum in their favor, but Palace just survive a dangerous ten minutes to regain control and grind out a frustrating (for Palace) draw. Man of the Match: Pontus Jannson.

Leeds 2-3 Everton
I put these two next to each other in my table predictions because I think they are similar in strength. While Rafa does prefer to defend over attack, the game will be turned on its head when the attacking Leeds strike first and Everton need a come-back. Richarlison pulls one back, Leeds score again through Harrison, Calvert-Lewin puts them on equal terms again before they scrape a win late on through a brilliant counter-attacking move as Leeds try their usual strategy of attacking to the end. Man of the Match: Richarlison.

Man City 3-1 Norwich
Just like Liverpool, City will score three past Norwich, and despite a consolation goal at 2-0, they will never really seem threatened. They will be back to near their best and will grab their first win of the season, more relief than happiness. While Grealish won't prove to be worth 100 million pounds (duh), KdB will be at it again with 2 goal contributions. Man of the Match: Kevin de Bruyne.

Brighton 2-1 Watford
While they inexplicably overcame Aston Villa, Watford aren't going to do it against Brighton. Brighton strike near the middle of the first half, before Watford equalize at the start of the second. Leandro Trossard curls one in though, giving Brighton another 2-1 victory. Man of the Match: Leandro Trossard.

Southampton 1-3 Man United
While it won't be 9-0, it will be a dominant victory, and while the Saints have proven that they don't need Ings to score goals, I predict another 3-1 loss. I doubt Varane will start, but either way the Saints will score and won't make any stupid errors, they will simply be outclassed by a hungry United squad. Man of the Match: Marcus Rashford.

Wolves 1-2 Spurs
I still don't think Kane will leave, but I still wouldn't bet on him starting, meaning Spurs will lack that predatory edge, but one smart finish and one brilliant counter-attack will see them to victory in an exciting match full of pace and skill. Man of the Match: Son Heung-Min.

Arsenal 1-2 Chelsea
Most would probably predict something more decisive for Chelsea, but on their day Arsenal are capable of winning against anyone. Looking at team news people tend to agree on the fact that Lukaku is set to make his debut (probably a start) against Arsenal. I also need to adress the stupidity involved in one site predicting them to start Pulisic at wing-back as well as playing Mount in both central and attacking midfield. While I won't name the site, it is a well-respected one. Arsenal will play well, with Saka scoring a brilliant solo goal at 2-0, but Chelsea ultimately take the win. Man of the Match: Mason Mount.

West Ham 3-4 Leicester
I predict... goals, goals, goals! Leicester are this season's Liverpool and West Ham were always going to be better at scoring than defending, so it is a fairly straightforward one to predict an exciting match for. Leicester do have Soyuncu as well as better midfielders and attackers so they should just come out victorious in an invigorating match. Man of the Match: Jamie Vardy.
