Premier League: 2020/21 EPL Table Predictions

Nobody can pretend that the start of the Premier League season hasn't been a tad surprising, what with City dropping as low as thirteenth and West Brom managing to stay out of the relegation zone. Other shocks, such as Liverpool's injury crisis, may not be too well represented in the table, but shocks such as these are becoming fairly frequent.

If you have been following England's first division during the Premier League Era, you likely know of the elements of unpredictability and excitement it is famous for, with shocks such as Leicester City's title win, the Invincibles and, until recently, Liverpool's painful streak that involved 16 top four places in 27 seasons without a single title victory. So yes, about 90 per cent of these are probably wrong, but you never know...

1: Liverpool FC

Yes, I am predicting the Reds to protect their title this season. Top of the table at the point I am writing this, I think Liverpool will receive plenty of competition this year, but will successfully defend their title, signing a new center-back during the January Transfer Window, while a few players earn Ballon d'Or nominations. Player of the Season: Mohamed Salah.

2: Tottenham Hotspur FC
Coming in at second (on point difference), I think José Mourinho's men will keep up the good form to earn a second place finish and likely a golden boot. Gareth Bale will slot back in as Kane and Son fire Spurs to victory, and possibly even some silverware in the form of the Europa League. Player of the Season: Harry Kane.

3: Chelsea FC
Tied with Tottenham on points, I think Chelsea will have a fair season. With a shaky backline, Chelsea will drop to third on goal difference, with Mendy having to take the initiative when it comes to defense. The attack, however, will get them through (likely with a Werner-Ziyech partnership) and high scoring games for both sides a common occurrence when the Blues are involved. Player of the Season: Edouard Mendy.

4: Manchester City FC
A horrible season for City despite not being far off the top point-wise, I think we could see a Pep departure at the end of the season. A trophy-less campaign will leave Man City fans (if there are any) underwhelmed. Just a rather unsatisfying season for City. Player of the Season: Kevin de Bruyne.

5: Leicester City FC

An unlucky position after a solid season for the Foxes, Leicester end the season as the only team to challenge top four. With a fair point gap behind them, Leicester likely go fairly far in the Europa League and show plenty of promise for the future. Player of the Season: Jamie Vardy.

6: Everton FC

The Toffees will enjoy a fairly good season under Carlo Ancelotti, earning a place in the Europa League through the guidelines here (check the 'when do these qualifications change' section). Calvert-Lewin will lead the line to score many goals, but one or two defensive issues will occur. Player of the Season: Dominic Calvert-Lewin

7: Arsenal FC

Defending the FA Cup, the cannons will have a fairly mediocre season when it comes to the Premier League, but a good season in other competitions will mean that Arteta will continue to receive the support of the board and fanbase. The Gunners will also breathe a sigh of relief as they begin not to rely so heavily on Aubameyang, with initiative shown by new-boys Partey and Gabriel. Player of the Season: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

8: Southampton
The Saints have already been incredible this season, and I see a brilliant season for them, possibly even securing a place in Europe.... Anyway, the Saints will have a good season, even beating one of the Big 6 to take their place at number 8. Player of the Season: James Ward-Prowse.

9: Manchester United FC

The Red Devils won't get lucky again, and this time a top five finish will be completely off the table. This club, previously one of the best, has suffered a sad downfall since the reign of Sir Alex ended. They will scrape into the top half with their tails between their legs. And surely, surely Ole will get the sack for someone like Poch, Zizou or (I could see it working out quite well) Emery. Player of the Season: Marcus Rashford.

10: Wolverhampton Wanderers FC

Top ten for Wolves after a heavily contested mid-table battle. A fair season defensively, Wolves will have a bit of a drought when it comes to goals due to the departure of Diogo Jota. Not a remarkable season, but not terrible either. Player of the Season: Conor Coady.

11: Leeds United FC

After a fairly successful season for the Premier League new-boys, Leeds have to settle for 11th, far above the undesired relegation zone that they were predicted by some to end up in. Anyway, a fair season that is marked by the Patrick Bamford goals, Kalvin-Phillip's England adventure and Illan Meslier's success as a youthful goalkeeper. Player of the Season: Patrick Bamford.

12: Aston Villa
Villa had a brilliant start to the season, but their form has started to drop, and it is for this reason that they are slowly dropping points. They will, however, not drop form too much and will therefore not be engaged in a relegation battle. Player of the Season: Jack Grealish.

13: West Ham United FC
The Hammers have reached a patch of good form, but it won't last. They will drop to 13th by the end of the season, which would have been fine at the beginning of the season, but is underwhelming after their good start. Player of the Season: Lukasz Fabianski.

14: Newcastle United FC

A fairly average season for the Geordies, Newcastle won't have any relegation worries as Steve Bruce steers them into the top fifteen. Nothing else to say really for the Magpies, except for the possibility of an end-of-season takeover.... Player of the Season: Callum Wilson.

15: Crystal Palace FC
Despite the successful signing of Eze, Crystal Palace face a few unlucky results to end the season tied for fifteenth but winning out on goal difference. The Eagles don't face too many troubles and stay out the relegation zone fairly comfortably. Player of the Season: Wilfried Zaha.

16: Brighton Hove & Albion FC

Despite only placing 16th, the Seagulls stay well out of the relegation zone and less than 15 points of tenth, with a gap of over 5 points behind them. One or two players receive England caps and the season ends with a few good results. Player of the Season: Solly March.

17: Burnley FC

Despite a terrible start to the season, Burnley retaliate and sit a spot above the drop for the majority of the season. Despite it being a terrible campaign, Burnley can breath a sigh of relief as they survive to see another EPL campaign. Player of the Season: Jay Rodriguez.

18: Fulham
A sad but predicted fall for the Cottagers, Fulham will take the drop, with their fate sealed in May. An unfortunate but near-definite fate. Player of the Season: Bobby De Cordova-Reid.

19: Sheffield United FC
Sheffield do not take the departure of Dean Henderson well, and the Blades suffer a embarrassing beginning and tragic ending to a well-anticipated campaign, but work hard to come back up immediately. Player of the Season: Billy Sharp.

20: West Bromwich Albion FC

It is a sad fact that 20th is what was expected from the Baggies, but it would be lying to say otherwise. West Brom had a (comparatively) good start to the season, but will have dropped to 20th by February, and that is where the season ends for them. Player of the Season: Conor Gallagher.
