My Euros Round of 16 Predictions

My group stage predictions were a mixed batch, and I'm hoping to turn it around here. Pretty simple concept: I'm predicting the round of sixteen. What are the results gonna be? What about the highlights? Let's find out.

Wales 1-3 Denmark

Wales take the lead through a cracker of a goal from Bale within the first ten minutes, and no goals for the rest of the half. Denmark get a late goal to take it to extra time, were they seal the deal with a good team goal and another wondergoal, knocking Wales out in Amsterdam. Man of the Match: Kasper Schmeichel, who keeps Denmark in it with a couple of brilliant saves.

Italy 1 (5) - (3) 1 Austria
A brilliant goal from David Alaba sees Austria go ahead, but he has to drop to center-back after an early sending-off for one of the Austria defenders. Italy get back on level terms, Immobile practically walking the ball into the net in the fifty-somethingth minute. Italy dominate, but miss a lot of chances and Austria defend well. No-one scores in extra time, so it goes to penalties, where Italy ultimately win after Austria miss one of their penalties. Man of the Match: Leonardo Spinizzola, after a solid defensive display.

Netherlands 1-0 Czech Republic
Not a fixture I would advise that you watch, the Czechs will start off strong before the Netherlands settle in and score through Memphis Depay near the middle of the second half. Solid defending from the Netherlands as they hold strong defensively after a shaky first ten minutes. Man of the Match: Gini Wijnaldum with a top-class match at the bass of the Netherland's midfield and a decisive pass in the build-up to the goal.

Belgium 3-1 Portugal
After a horrific challenge on Diogo Jota early on, Jan Vertongen is sent off and Ronaldo converts yet another penalty while Bruno Fernandes just manages to hold back tears as yet another penalty is not taken by Penandes, but rather Penaldo. Belgium pull three back in the second half though, despite being a man down, and Lukaku is awarded Man of the Match for his two goals and an assist for Hazard (see, cause then I'm right whether it's Eden or Thorgan. 200IQ).

Croatia 1-2 Spain
I think Morata is often overly-criticized on the internet, and this will be a bit of well-deserved redemption. Croatia take the lead through a Modric goal or assist, and it looks like it will stay that way. Alberto Moreno picks up a late injury, and Morata is brought on. He scores late, before sealing Spain's win with a beauty late in extra time. Man of the Match: Alvaro Morata.

France 3-1 Switzerland
France take control comfortably with two goals in the first half, but Switzerland pull one back early in the second half, and look to have France with their backs at the wall before Mbappe seals the deal. Man of the Match: Mbappe with a hattrick.

England 1 - 3 Germany
I originally had this as England winning on penalties, but being honest I have to say Germany will win. They are just too good. In a head on head comparison, you have to say that Germany are probably the better team, especially in defense. I mean, you've got Mats Hummels, Antonio Rudiger and freaking Manuel Neuer up against John Stones, Tyrone Mings and Jordan Pickford. Germany have goalkeepers like Marc-André ter Stegen who aren't even at the Euros who are better than Pickford (and so do England for that matter). Man of the Match: Thomas Müller with a goal and an assist.

Sweden 4-3 Ukraine
Leaving the best for last, I predict an excellent fixture with braces for Emil Forsberg, Alexander Isak and Andriy Yarmolenko. Ukraine are held aloft as Zinchenko and Yarmolenko combine for 3 goals, but ultimately bow out to the impressive Sweden. Man of the Match: Olexander Zinchenko, who dominates in attack and defense with the most tackles and tied for the most goal contributions.

And there we have it. With an average of 3.625 goals per game (excluding if the match goes to penalties) these are my predictions for the Euros round of sixteen. International fixtures do tend to be a bit more exciting than normal league matches, especially in the knock-outs, so let's hope these fixtures live up to my hype. Anyway, please share my blog with your friends and relatives and I'll see you next time. Noah (☞゚ヮ゚)☞ ☜(゚ヮ゚☜)
