This Is How T-Series Surpassed PewDiePie To Become the Most Subscribed-To Channel on YouTube!

I need to say this loud and clear: PewDiePie is not a Saint. However, when it comes to who should be top of YouTube, the only two channels with a realistic chance of surpassing T-Series at the summit are PewDiePie and Cocomelon. I think I would prefer PewDiePie to be at the summit than the other two. Although maybe we should all sub to Cocomelon, just for the memes. I have had similar arguments on this topic with many close family members, and I need to get this out there before anyone, especially them, says I am offensive (looking at you mom).

First up, a big shout-out to Blue Shirt Kid, who's channel you can find linked here who is the reason I discovered this in the first place due to what he said in this PewDiePie reaction video I was recently alerted to.

He explained that the reason behind the rise of T-Series, mustering enough fans to surpass PewDiePie and take the YouTube crown was because of a company known as Jio, a telecommunications company that did something that would change India forever.

On the 5th of September 2016 it released a FREE Internet package that offered free data and voice services until 31 December, which was later extended until 31 March 2017! After that it gained 16 million subscribers within the first month, and more continued to come.

Despite making these services cost money after that, their packages remained extremely cheap. Below is a screenshot of their 2 Gigabyte per day packs. As an example, if I were to convert the third option into euros it would equate to €26,60 or $32,80 in US Dollars PER YEAR (it indicates availability for a 365 day period), which is a miniscule amount for such a generous package.

Along with Internet Access, many Indians became huge fans of the popular Indian music YouTube Channel, T-Series, and the channel rapidly started to gain ground, until only PewDiePie stood in its path, and even he was surpassed in the end around the 85 million subscriber mark. T-Series now has around 167 million subscribers, but it seems that this Internet access provider, Jio, may be directly involved with T-Series, rather than indirectly helping it.

Many Indians have complained that this Internet provider automatically subscribed them to T-Series, and you have to manually unsubscribe from it if you do not want to support them. This means that all non-YouTube users using Jio as an Internet provider are likely subscribed without knowing it, while others may be led into discovering it through this method.

It is unsure what the relationship between these corporations is. While I would say it is most likely a contract where T-Series give some of their assets to Jio in return for this subscription being automatically loaded onto devices, it is possible that the companies are intertwined in more than just a contractual way.

The reason for this theory comes when you theorize about how Jio could possibly get enough funding to give so much free Internet away. While Jio was a company of a respectable size, a stunt of this scale was almost certainly not within their abilities.

It is likely, therefore, that they had help from the outside, or possibly that T-Series was not the outside at all but already linked to or invested in Jio. If this is the case, we can also assume that other companies may also have been invested in this giant stunt, and the only reason that this problem became known is because T-Series was getting a lot of publicity and one smart boy who had linked the dots happened to be interviewed about his views on PewDiePie and T-Series.

If this ends up being true, which it likely is, despite these links between the two companies being a brilliant idea, it would go against multiple ethical issues and laws and would likely end in huge fines and backlash for both companies.

However, I do not see this being surfaced, because T-Series and Jio are two mega-corporations, and India already has its fair few problems to deal with without a major lawsuit that they likely won't win. So yeah, you could say this combo is above the law.

Anyway, thank you guys for coming back for another post. Hope you enjoyed! Please share my blog and comment below on any queries, post requests, etc. Bye! Noah :P
